Teachers’ Pride

Being a teacher was not my aspiration when I was a child, but my destiny made me like this. If you asked some children at elementary school, most of them wanted to be a president, a doctor, a minister, etc, but no one said about being a teacher. Why do they say that? Is that all about the money? It could be right, because teachers are well known as “a hero without an honor” or the so called “Umar Bakri”. A poor but wise man.

Poor teachers, with their limited salary, they have to be triggers of the next generations to make them better. What a heavy duty to do! Everyday, their life is just changing students’ behaviour, students life. Filling them with knowledges and making them

They become parents for them, even more “parents” then their own parents. Students share their problems, especially their “love” problems more open to teachers then their parents. That’s why, teachers won’t be forgotten forever because they gave nice memories even after years.

They say that there won’t be a president without teachers. So, respect to
your teacher (and of course, to your own parents), and you’ll be succeed. Trust me.

Never Feel Regret for Something

As you know, there are many social networking sites on the internet such as Friendster, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc. Many people join those sites for various reasons. Commonly they join those sites because they want to find their former friends when they were ate schools. Others just want to have fun by playing games. But be careful, there are hackers too there! I mean, some idly users use those sites to gain advantages from other accounts, especially those who play games. How horrible!

Well, several years ago, people only know “Friendster” but now, there are various social networking sites as I mentioned before. Among those sites, Facebook is more well-known than others because of its easy and interractive use for most of the people.

When you use those site, for example Facebook, you will not only know people from your neighbourhood but also those from other countries. You can talk and even make relationships with them. But remember, they do not want to use your own language, and if you do so, the communication won’t work.

So, what should we do? The only key is to use English as a universal language because most of the foreign people (except those from native spoken English) learn English too. Don’t worry to talk, don’t be hesitate, because most of them could not speak English well, too.

And how if you “can’t” speak English? “can’t” here means you’re too shy to use English. You know the grammar and verbs, but you don’t want to use that international language. If you are the one like that, you are just a dumb person! But if you really don’t know how to speak English it’s your own fault because you don’t learn it well at your scool.

As you know, English is learnt along the education systems in Indonesia: from Kindergarten to University. Anywhere and anytime
you study, you will learn English. And if you still can’t use it now on your Facebook/ other social networks, don’t blame other and you deserve to regret youself because you do not learn English well since you’re young. You’re such a lazy person!

Can I improve my English? Of course, there’s never such a word “late” for study something. You can be regret but you still can improve your skill. Try ing to use English now is never late. Do it!

A Qusetion for Indonesian Youth: What Will You Do?

Every year, when you watch television, the indonesian government advertise about “going to SMK (Vocational High School)”. Honestly, I still do not understand about the aim of that advertisement. In my oppinion, when students of Junior High School goes to SMK, they will be labours or other informal workers. Is that the aim, making them slaves of foreign workers? This policy that I still can’t understand. WHY?

Maybe you’ll argue that former policies of the Indonesian Government to support Senior High School (SMA) was wrong. Sudents were supposed not to have abilities/ skills in their real live, because most of them do not continue to University. All right, you might be right. But what do they need if they just serve customers in stores, cutting trees in their village, being sales promotion, etc, that those skills can be learned when they began to do such work through the internal training? Please realize that they work in that sectors, no more! Even most of them work in informal sectors such as “becak’ drivers, pavement traders, etc. Do they need skills from Vocational High Schools? The answer is NO, right?

Even when they work in industry, they will get, as I said, “internal training” before they work. And I guarantee that the selection of the workers is not based on the previous education (SMA/ SMK) but from the result of their training! So, why must the government support SMK (and kill SMA)?

My ideas are: let MA (Madrasah Aliyah), SMA or SMK attract SMP students in a pure competition and support them to continue their education to university. The government should make regulations that let students easier to continue their education to university. Just like the price of oil, the governmet should decide the minimum/maximum price of education in all levels. This policy can make life is “easier” to do because we can estimate “the price of our life” in the future.
